Topics Covered in This Guide
9. The Golden Touch: Grip it Right
Before we even talk about swing mechanics, let's address the most fundamental aspect of your short game: the grip. Imagine your putter or wedge is like a delicate flower you're cradling—firm but gentle.
Use a light grip to maintain control and ensure a silky-smooth stroke. Don't strangle the club; it's not a nut and you're not a nutcracker. Focus on channeling your inner Goldilocks and find that grip that's just right.

8. Chipping 101: Find Your Landing Spot
When it comes to chipping, think of your landing spot as your North Star. Instead of focusing solely on the hole, pick a spot where you want your ball to land. This will help you gauge the distance and control your shot better. It's like tossing a crumpled-up piece of paper into a trash can—aim small, miss small.

7. Pitch Perfect: Use Your Wedges Wisely
Your wedge collection is like a toolbox, each club serving a unique purpose. Approach each shot strategically. For shorter chips, choose a higher lofted wedge, and for longer pitches, go with a lower loft. Think of it as selecting the right wrench for the job, and you'll find yourself in more manageable situations around the green.
Let's take a look at how you can utilize the three different lofts of the P3 Pharaoh Wedge for different shots. Keep in mind that the swing concept is the same for all three lofts of P3; it's a more controlled straight-back, straight-through type of motion that focuses on dependable results.Â
45° Pharaoh Wedge
The 45° is ideal for bump and run shots around the green where you just need to carry a little bit of rough or fringe. The ball will land on the green and run out towards the hole.
The more time the ball spends on the ground versus the air, the more consistent the results. It's similar to a putt, but the ball is airborne for the first several feet of the shot.Â
50° Pharaoh Wedge
The 50° is great for chip shots around the green that require the ball to carry over a longer distance of rough or fringe. The ball will land a little softer on the green and will have less roll out than the 45°. Â
55° Pharaoh Wedge
The 55° is the perfect club when you need to get the ball in the air and have it land soft. It's also a consistent performer out of the sand and when you need to get the ball over obstacles with little roll out.Â
"Your short game may not be as sexy as smashing drives, but it's where you score." - Justin Rose
6. Eyes on the Prize: Focus on the Ball
It might sound obvious, but keeping your eye on the ball is paramount. Think about it: you wouldn't take your eyes off the road while driving, would you? Putting is no different; your eyes are your GPS to the hole, and you don't want to get lost on the green.
Lock your gaze on the ball as if it owes you money, and your stroke will be more consistent and accurate. Keep those peepers peeled and putt your way to victory!
"There are no shortcuts in the quest for perfection, but the shortest path to success in golf is improving your short game." - Raymond Floyd
5. Silence the Hips: Control Your Body
In your short game, you want them to be as still as a statue. Minimize hip movement to ensure a stable swing. Your upper body should do most of the work while your lower body stays quiet. You're not auditioning for "Dancing with the Stars" on the green.
"The key to a good short game is keeping your body out of it." - Ben Hogan
4. Create a Smooth Putting Stroke
When it's time to putt, envision a string connecting your ball to the hole. The key here is to maintain a smooth and consistent stroke throughout. Imagine you're stirring a cup of tea for your imaginary British grandma—no sudden jerks or jitters. A smooth stroke will help you control both distance and direction.

Matt I am 75 now but I started playing golf at 40. Since I have a name of a great golfer I read his chipping set-up. I began my practice after a warm up each time. I started a regimen of taking 20 balls, scattering them around a practice green and choosing a pin to chip to. After chipping was done I would putt out, counting the chips and putts and breaking 50 was my intention. I finally broke 50 and my best is 46.
